As a new year begins, everything takes on a fresh look. Standing at a crucial historical juncture for planning the “15th Five-Year Plan”, Lianyungang Port achieved a 6.8% year-on-year increase in its total cargo throughput in January 2026. Notably, its foreign trade throughput surged by 14% year-on-year, securing a strong start in the first month of the “15th Five-Year Plan” period and laying a solid foundation and gathering strong momentum for the opening year.

As the eastern starting point of the New Eurasian Continental Bridge Economic Corridor and a national-level comprehensive transportation hub, Lianyungang Port shoulders the important missions of “setting benchmarks and demonstrating models” and facilitating the smooth flow of both domestic and international dual circulations. The outstanding performance in the first month highlights the port’s hardcore hub capabilities and strong development resilience.

In January, various port areas under the “one body, two wings” layout of Lianyungang Port flourished simultaneously, with a sustained production boom and accelerated engineering construction. At the Xuwei Port Area, the Xinwei Port Terminal was bustling with ships and vehicles, operating around the clock. In that month, it efficiently handled 304 vessel operations, breaking 17 production records including those for photovoltaic module operations and pipe pile unloading. Despite facing the dual challenges of rainy and snowy weather and tight berth availability, it delivered impressive results. “Starting the year by setting records not only validates our professional expertise in handling large-scale cargo operations but also reflects the effectiveness of our lean management,” said Xu, Manager of the Production Operation Center at Lianyungang Xinwei Port Terminal Co., Ltd.

The northern wing, the Ganyu Port Area, also operated at full capacity, hitting the production acceleration pedal. It successfully completed its first inland trade coil steel unloading operation, enabling “seamless berthing” of various types of vessels. The volume of liquid bulk cargo operations increased by 67.4% year-on-year, setting a new single-month record since the port’s opening. The temporary activation of Berth 296 at Xinxu Port passed acceptance inspection, further optimizing the operational layout. Meanwhile, the main port area accelerated its smart construction. The ECS system of the automated container terminal was officially launched, initially achieving full-process automated operations. The Lianyungang International Grain Distribution Center completed the heavy-load testing of the bucket-equipped portal crane, with its core hardware entering the stage of operational condition verification, laying a solid foundation for building a “maritime granary”.

New strides have been made in open cooperation and corridor construction. The “Cooperation Initiative on the Joint Construction and Sharing of the Sea-River Combined Transport System in Jiangsu, Anhui, Shandong, and Henan Provinces” has yielded tangible results, expanding the sea-river combined transport network southward, northward, and eastward in just 38 days. The “Lianyungang—Changde” sea-river-inland waterway combined transport corridor has operated regularly, breaking down logistics barriers between the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and the coast of the Yellow Sea. The sea-river combined transport corridor for iron ore sand from Lianyungang to the northern section of the Shandong Canal has officially commenced operations, opening up a new economic outlet to the sea for the hinterland. The “Xinlong Port—Pohang Port in South Korea” foreign trade route made its maiden voyage, further expanding the port’s foreign trade reach. In addition, Lianyungang Port signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Henan Port&Shipping Group, focusing on multi-field collaboration to jointly enhance the capacity of the New Eurasian Land-Sea Combined Transport Corridor. It is reported that in January 2026, the cargo throughput of sea-river combined transport at Lianyungang Port increased by 5.3% year-on-year, with container throughput rising by 10.1% year-on-year, continuously highlighting the advantages of multimodal transport.

Standing at a new starting point, Lianyungang Port will continue to deepen the “one body, two wings” layout, focus on enhancing the capacity of an international hub port, deepen reform and innovation, and optimize service efficiency, injecting even stronger impetus into serving national strategies and boosting high-quality regional economic development.
