On the busy shipping lanes, container ships loaded with goods are bustling, serving as active carriers of maritime trade and important engines for regional economic development. Recently, good news came again from the "Lianshen Express" operating between Lianyungang Port and Shanghai Port. Up to now, it has completed a total of 113,800 TEUs, representing a year-on-year increase of 23.92%, surpassing the annual TEU volume for 2023.

Dubbed the "sea bus" shuttle between Lianyungang Port and Shanghai Port, the "Lianshen Express" acts as a public feeder connecting Lianyungang to Shanghai Port, the world's first container port. This inland feeder not only shortens the distance between the two ports but also effectively extends Shanghai Port's advantageous routes, especially its ocean trunk lines, to Lianyungang, providing a more convenient and efficient channel for cargo transportation between the two locations.

"This year, Lianyungang Port has centered on customer needs, collaborating with Shanghai Port to develop special logistics products such as 'Lianshen Express + Yangtze River + Railway + Land Bridge', leveraging the strengths of railways, ports, and maritime transport to open up a 'road-to-rail + road-to-water' multimodal transport express corridor from Xinyi to Shanghai via Lianyungang, continuously extending Lianyungang Port's seaport functions inland," explained Mr. Jiang, Business Development Manager of Lianyungang Interconnection Container Co., Ltd. These products not only offer more diversified options for cargo transportation between the two places but also inject new vitality into the coordinated development of the regional economy.

Driven by these special logistics products, logistics service brands like "Lianshen Express" have gained recognition from more and more customers. Meanwhile, the introduction of empty container logistics center services has further enhanced the core competitiveness and market satisfaction of these brands. Since its unveiling in April this year, the Northeast Asia Lianyungang Empty Container Service Center has been committed to meeting customer needs and establishing a north-south empty container transportation corridor. Through this corridor, shipping companies' empty container transportation capabilities have been significantly improved, effectively addressing the challenge of empty container relocation. Currently, the Empty Container Center has signed yard agreements with 11 shipping companies, and the volume of containers entering and exiting the center is steadily increasing. As of November 17, the center had handled 13,000 TEUs.

Furthermore, Lianyungang Port is actively promoting multidimensional integrated cooperation with Shanghai Port to continuously enhance the resilience and vitality of the "Lianshen Express". At present, capital cooperation between the two parties has been approved by state-owned assets departments, and a ro-ro joint venture company is being established; cooperation with Haibo Digital Technology is also progressing smoothly to jointly build a digital corridor project, opening up 10 near- and ocean-going routes, and expanding the market along the Longhai Railway through a "land express + sea express" model.

It is reported that Lianyungang Port will continue to collaborate with Shanghai Port to optimize and upgrade the logistics network layout and service processes of the "Lianshen Express", deepen cooperation with various parties, jointly explore more diversified transportation combination modes, enrich the connotation of the "π"-shaped economic development, draw the largest concentric circle of the "spillover effect" in the Yangtze River Delta, and contribute to the prosperity and development of the regional economy and the construction of a new pattern of domestic and international dual circulation with the strength of Lianyungang.
