Lianyungang China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway Freight Tops 500 Cars in a Single Month

Recently, a China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan rail-road intermodal train, fully loaded with auto parts, tires, and other export cargo, departed smoothly from the China–Kazakhstan (Lianyungang) Logistics Cooperation Base, bound for Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This marks the first time the base has shipped more than 500 railcars in a single month since launching the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan service — a milestone that underscores the growing resilience and market vitality of the “Lianyungang–Central Asia” international logistics corridor, as well as the powerful momentum of the New Eurasian Land-Sea Intermodal Corridor in serving the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.

As a key strategic node on the southern route of the China–Europe Railway Express, the Lianyungang China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan rail-road intermodal service is leveraging its unique geographic advantages and efficient multimodal system to become a golden corridor linking East Asia with Central Asia, West Asia, and even European markets. The milestone of exceeding 500 cars in one month is both a concrete result of Lianyungang Port’s deep implementation of China’s Belt and Road Initiative and a vivid example of the port’s role in building a new development paradigm and keeping international logistics channels open.

Amid a complex and ever-changing international logistics environment, Lianyungang Port has drawn on its rail-road-water intermodal strengths to launch an innovative “container door-to-door” end-to-end logistics solution. “Traditional all-rail transport faces tight capacity and long waits at port transshipment points. By efficiently integrating rail and road resources, our train switches to road transport upon arrival in Kashgar, Xinjiang, and proceeds via the Irkeshtam border crossing directly to Tashkent, Uzbekistan,” said Zhao, Party Branch Secretary and General Manager of Lianyungang China–Kazakhstan International Logistics Co., Ltd. This innovative model effectively resolves capacity bottlenecks, significantly reduces port transshipment wait times, and enables cargo to move immediately upon arrival. At the same time, the new model cuts transport costs by at least $300 per container, delivering a true win-win of “faster delivery, lower cost” and offering foreign trade companies a more flexible and convenient shipping option.

The corridor’s efficient operation relies on stable cargo sources and deep global supply chain collaboration. Currently, the cargo mix on the Lianyungang China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan service continues to optimize, forming a pattern of “mutual inbound-outbound flow and coordinated domestic-international operations”. On the transit side, leveraging Lianyungang’s maritime routes to South Korea, at least two cross-border intermodal trains depart weekly. Auto and auto parts cargo from South Korea can cross the continental interior in just 15 days via sea-rail-road intermodal transport. On the export side, cargo from South China and the Lianyungang area is gathered via coastal shipping, road, and rail, then efficiently transshipped from road to rail at Kashgar North Station before rapid border crossing — with seamless, smooth logistics throughout.

Breaking the 500-car monthly threshold is more than a numerical leap; it is strong evidence of Lianyungang’s function as an international hub and its core status. Looking ahead, Lianyungang Port will continue to deepen strategic cooperation with all parties, actively push the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan and other international railway corridors toward higher quality, greater efficiency, and enhanced safety, injecting sustained and powerful momentum into the deepening of Belt and Road logistics cooperation.
