In celebration of the 114th International Nurses Day, the Lianyungang Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, in collaboration with the Municipal Oriental Hospital, recently hosted the “Expats in Lianyungang City” series of events under the theme “Promoting Health through Sino-Foreign Collaboration, Advancing Development through Cultural Exchange”. The initiative featured interactive activities and medical exhibitions to foster international healthcare and cultural exchanges. After being posted on the overseas social media platform Facebook, the event content received a “like” from the official account of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, generating widespread attention.

As a key platform for promoting international exchanges in the city, the “Expats in Lianyungang City” series of events incorporated a medical theme for the first time. At the venue, over 10 international students from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Ghana, and other countries participated in aging simulation experience and specialist nurse clinics, gaining firsthand insight into the humanistic care embedded in China’s medical services. “We hope such events will enable foreign friends to become not only witnesses to Lianyungang’s development but also bridges for Sino-foreign cultural exchanges,” said Gao Yuzhi, Deputy Director of the Municipal Foreign Affairs Office.

As Jiangsu Province’s sole foreign-related medical institution, the Municipal Oriental Hospital has long served as a vital window for Lianyungang’s internationalized healthcare services. Over the past nine years, it has trained over 70 international students, including 52 from countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, making significant contributions to global medical talent cultivation. During the event, the hospital showcased its signature “unattended ward” service, where professional nursing teams provide 24-hour comprehensive care, effectively addressing the challenges of transnational medical accompaniment and earning widespread praise from patients.
