Lianyungang Port's Throughput Reached 25.26 Million Tons in First Month

At the beginning of the Spring Festival, the container terminal of Lianyungang Port was busy, and several 10000 tons of cargo ships were berthing for loading and unloading operations. High-speed rail cranes roared back and forth to grab the containers and put them on the trucks that came to pull the goods. "The terminal operation ushered in ‘a good start’. In January, the cargo throughput reached 25.26 million tons, up 0.77% year on year; the container throughput reached 510000 TEUs, up 10.27% year on year." Wang Xinwen, vice president of Port Holding Group, introduced.

Port transportation is known as the barometer of economy. Lianyungang is a big city for foreign trade. The journalist visited the port and found that there were huge ships in and out of the port area from time to time, and the transport vehicles at the operation terminals shuttle in an orderly manner, showing sufficient vitality and resilience. In the face of severe and complex foreign trade situation, our city has made every effort to stabilize foreign trade and expand the market by virtue of the high-quality development of the "Belt and Road" and the "East Wind" brought by a deep implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RECP) since this year.

Automobile export has become a new growth point to stabilize the foreign trade market. Not long ago, the "Viking Drive" wheel, carrying 460 mechanical vehicles, set off from Lianyungang Port and set sail to the west coast of the United States, successively connecting with the ports like Long Beach in the US and Manzanillo in Mexico. After three years, the North American route is re-opened, effectively promoting the construction of the port's regional ro-ro cargo import and export distribution center to a new level. Xu He, the general manager of Dong Fang International Container (Lianyungang) Co. Ltd. of the port, introduced that Lianyungang Port deepened the "route+source of goods" market development strategy and realized the high-quality development of ro-ro groceries by taking "stabilization of foundation, increase of efficiency, integration of characteristic development and promotion of center construction" as the starting point. In January, Lianyungang Port exported 26000 mechanical vehicles, up 94% year on year.

Multi-modal transportation contributes to container export. New Oriental International Container Terminal Co. Ltd. of the port, in conjunction with Cosharbor Logistics, Lianyungang Foreign Agents and Lesofond (Shanghai), has successfully launched the first trial operation of the Russian route "Lianyungang- Nakhodka" in recent days, which will become the basis for Lianyungang Port to expand the Sino-Russian logistics channel.

"The achievements in foreign trade are commendable. In January, we successfully won the first export of hydraulic equipments of Zheng Zhou Coal Mining Machinery Group in Lianyungang, and the export of wind power projects increased by 3.5 times year on year." Wang Xinwen said that the whole port carried out special activities to create service brands, and all production sectors sorted out the deficiencies in service quality and formulated improvement measures based on the characteristics of goods and production operations and promoted customers' demand for "success, speed and good job" by solving the customers’ difficulties. The import and export volume of the port’s foreign trade is stimulated by the overall improvement of service level. At the same time, the port has optimized the charging sector, and the "one price" charging mode for the qualified bulk cargo has been implemented, which effectively solves the drawbacks of miscellaneous charging items and low transparency in the import and export links, providing a good business environment for the stable development of the port.

The logistics is kept on file; the international trains are non-stop; and the railway transportation is round-the-clock. The busy scene of the port told the truth that foreign trade enterprises had set sail one after another. With the optimization and adjustment of epidemic prevention and control measures, the commercial departments of all parts of the city have organized foreign trade enterprises to carry out business negotiations in Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Europe, the United States and other places since this year and have taken the initiative to go abroad to seize orders, so as to store energy for the economic development of Lianyungang city.
