Recently, the author learned from Lianyungang Port Holding Group that in 2025, guided by the goal of building an international hub seaport, Lianyungang Port achieved remarkable results through solid and pragmatic efforts. It handled 367 million tons of cargo throughput and 7.1598 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of container throughput, representing year-on-year increases of 6% and 7%, respectively. This not only successfully fulfilled the targets set during the “14th Five-Year Plan” period but also laid a solid foundation for a strong start to the “15th Five-Year Plan” period.

Production records were repeatedly broken, and core businesses grew steadily. Lianyungang Port comprehensively enhanced its production organization capabilities, with all fronts demonstrating resilience and hard work. Among them, Lianyungang XSG-IMC Port Co., Ltd., relying on full-process intelligent upgrades and efficient scheduling by the “Smart Operations Control Center”, handled 45.73 million tons of throughput throughout the year, a 4.57% year-on-year increase. The total number of vehicles loaded and unloaded across the port exceeded 375,000 units, setting a new historical record. The multimodal transport system flourished, with sea-rail intermodal transport volume reaching 943,000 TEUs, including a 23.8% year-on-year increase in “single-container” shipments. Sea-river intermodal transport volume for the year reached 24.138 million tons...

“We innovated and promoted operational models, improving single-train operational efficiency by 8.3% and reducing operational time by 25 minutes, creating a replicable and scalable model for efficient operations,” said Zhu, a scheduler in the Transportation Management Department of the Port Group’s Railway Transport Branch.

The hub corridor expanded and accelerated, unleashing vibrant internal and external connectivity. Lianyungang Port accelerated the improvement of its hub corridor network, with the pilot area of the Aktau Port Container Hub Project officially coming into operation, fully establishing an integrated “three-hub” operational model. The “Yungang·Huo Digital Communication” platform was officially launched, turning the blueprint for a new Eurasian land-sea multimodal transport data corridor into reality. By participating in the second International Cooperation Forum on China-Europe Railway Express, the port signed multiple cooperation agreements, boosting the high-quality development of new Eurasian land-sea multimodal transport. Throughout the year, the number of China-Europe (Asia) Railway Express trips reached 915, ranking first in the province.

The port’s cooperation network continued to expand, with collaborative development advancing in depth. The port’s “circle of friends” achieved a dual improvement in both quantity and quality. Cooperation between Shanghai and Lianyungang entered a “deep-water zone”, with Shanghai Port Group becoming the second-largest shareholder of Lianyungang Port Co., Ltd. The “Longhai Line + Lian-Shen Express Shipping” single-bill system and coastal feeder services were successively launched, with cooperation extending to the green methanol new energy industrial chain. Throughout the year, “Lian-Shen Express Shipping” handled 152,000 TEUs, a 21.5% year-on-year increase, turning the vision of “entering Lianyungang Port is like entering Shanghai Port” into reality. Meanwhile, the port successfully hosted the Symposium on Jointly Building the New Eurasian Land-Sea Multimodal Transport Corridor, jointly initiated two cooperation proposals with multiple units, launched the Lanbao Star platform and several characteristic multimodal transport routes, comprehensively elevating the level of cooperation.

Significant achievements were made in green transformation. Throughout the year, the port completed the construction of two air-supported warehouses in Xinwei Port and Guanhe Port Area, adding approximately 4,528 meters of windbreak and dust suppression nets. It established the country's first all-electric tugboat fleet, with its related comprehensive solution winning the “Golden Key” Award in the field of sustainable development and being globally released at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30). The “Lianyungang Solution” has become an industry benchmark.
