Lianyungang Port Will Become the Most Convenient and Efficient Seaport in Central Asia

Yesterday morning, the Central Asia Office of Lianyungang Port Holding Group was unveiled and put into operation in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Our city will build a logistics service platform for the five Central Asian countries, and directly negotiate and contact overseas customers in terms of train operation, two-way transportation, source development, investment cooperation and other aspects. Based on the international logistics cooperation between China and Kazakhstan, the radiation effect of the value chain of China Kazakhstan cooperation will be further expanded. Our city will promote the construction of the new Eurasian land-sea intermodal transportation channel at a deeper, broader and higher level to achieve stability and progress.
The cooperation between Lianyungang and Central Asia has a long history. As early as December 1, 1992, the international train from Lianyungang to Almaty operated for the first time. For more than 30 years, relying on the New Eurasian Land Bridge, our city has developed international train services, from logistics and transportation to strategic cooperation, from connectivity to business linkage, showing strong vitality and resilience. At present, our city has carried out international intermodal transportation services for the continental bridge, radiating to more than 30 countries and regions. The total number of international trains has reached 1.248 million TEUs, with 15220 trains operating, ranking among the top in China and achieving full coverage of major stations in Central Asia.
In the unique sunny and scorching weather of Central Asia, the second phase of the Almaty Overseas Warehouse project of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (Lianyungang) Logistics Park is under construction in full swing. “The construction of Phase II storage facilities and office buildings was officially launched in March this year, and now 40% of the whole construction progress has been completed.” Mr. Sun, the general manager of Sino Kazakhstan Logistics Co., Ltd., said that after the completion of the project, it would become a storage, distribution and transit base for commodities such as grain, agricultural products, potash fertilizer, cotton yarn, and achieve two-way correspondence with domestic companies in the SCO (Lianyungang) International Logistics Park. After the establishment of the Central Asia Office, the radiation capacity of this two-way logistics hub will be further expanded.
The establishment of a Central Asian office is the fruit of our city’s long-term cooperation with Central Asian countries to promote land-sea intermodal transportation between Asia and Europe. “The most intuitive benefit is that it is more convenient to collect goods.” Karpar, the logistics director of Harbin Railway Express, said. The improvement of service efficiency will help to enhance the strategic position of Lianyungang in Sino-European and Central Asian transport corridors, and promote the layout of Lianyungang nodes along the “Belt and Road”.
“The office will provide new impetus for the development along the ‘Belt and Road’, upgrade the construction of the Central Asia and Caspian Sea thoroughfares to a new level and facilitate us to explore and study more new projects.” said Sawut, Deputy Secretary General of the International Association of Trans-Caspian International Transport Routes. In May of this year, at the China-Central Asia Summit, China and the five Central Asian countries reached a series of cooperation consensus to jointly promote the multimodal transit transport of Trans-Caspian lines via Aktau Port, Kurek Port and other seaports. Lianyungang took the initiative to set up overseas institutions this time, and the cooperation project with Aktau Port Container Hub was fulfilled on the same day.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the “Belt and Road” cooperation initiative put forward by President Xi and the 90th anniversary of the opening of Lianyungang Port. Mr. Wang, the President of Lianyungang Port Holding Group, stated that he would keep the General Secretary’s instructions in mind and make Lianyungang Port the most convenient and efficient sea port in Central Asia.
