Brands of China Pharmaceutical Port Gain Recognition Again and Two Pharmaceutical Enterprises in Lianyungang Entered World’s Top 1000 Pharmas

In 2012, Torreya, a global investment bank, began to study 30000 pharmaceutical companies around the world. In 2021, the agency released the report on the World's Top 1000 pharmaceutical enterprises, which ranked 1000 pharmaceutical enterprises by valuation. The annual total revenue of these 1000 companies exceeded US $1.44 trillion, a year-on-year increase of 16.1%. This year, 249 Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) were listed in the Top 1000 pharmaceutical enterprises, of which Hengrui Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd., a pharmaceutical enterprise in Lianyungang, ranked 24th in the world and first in China; Hansoh Pharma ranked 82nd. The relevant person in charge of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau said that the list once again highlighted the international brand strength of Lianyungang--China Pharmaceutical Port and reflected that Lianyungang’s pharmaceutical enterprises are moving towards the global market by means of scientific and technological innovation.

Lianyungang contributes to Jiangsu’s pharmaceutical innovation. Data show that the value share of the top nine regions in the global biotechnology has decreased from 71% 14 months ago to 54% today. Less popular regions in the United States and China are gaining most of the new share. Among them, Boston has become the most prosperous area of biotechnology in the world, while China's Jiangsu Province has risen from 9th to 6th in the global biotechnology ranking, surpassing the Netherlands, South Korea and Washington, D.C. This is mainly because the number and quality of selected enterprises in Jiangsu have been improved. In the global pharmaceutical Top 1000 list, 4 enterprises in Jiangsu were listed, including 2 in Lianyungang.

Innovative drugs have become a magic key to the growth of pharmaceutical enterprises in our city. Facing the pressure of industry centralized purchase, enterprises in our city have planned transformation one after another to promote new growth of enterprises with the R & D of innovative drugs. Taking Hansoh Pharma as an example, in the first half of this year, the sales of innovative drugs accounted for 28.5%, a year-on-year increase of 66.8%, and the overall revenue growth of the company in the same period was only 10.6%. Its new product (fast follower) is on the market in batches. Polyethylene glycol losentapeptide in 2019, ametinib in 2020 and amitenofovir in 2021 are all listed as the first class innovative drugs which are expected to enter medical insurance in the year. Institutional analysts said that this new drug strategy can be called "throttling" strategy - focusing resources on innovation and R & D represents the determination of "Hansohers" to transform and innovate to a certain extent. On the other hand, enterprises in our city implement the "open source" strategy, that is, rapidly replenishing pipelines through product introduction and backbone pharmaceutical enterprises continue to enhance their innovation ability through a series of measures such as replenishing mature products, innovating early pipelines and technical platform cooperation. Similarly, taking Hansoh as an example, it intensively arranged the small nucleic acid field in October, cooperated to develop siRNA of three targets through the platform of the partner silence therapeutics and developed liver related drugs through the GalNAc asirna platform of olix pharmaceuticals.

According to the relevant personnel of the Science and Technology Bureau of Lianyungang, "Next, our city will further strengthen its support for the original research and innovation of enterprises. We will actively organize relevant enterprises to apply for various national and provincial science and technology projects, facilitate more enterprises to blossom and bear fruit in innovative drugs and promote the innovation and transformation of the whole pharmaceutical industry in Lianyungang."
