Lianyungang Port Ranks among Top 100 Container Ports Worldwide

A few days ago, Lloyd's Daily, the authoritative global shipping media, published the ranking of the world's top 100 container ports in 2021, with four container ports in our province, namely Taicang Port, Lianyungang Port, Nanjing Port and Nantong Port. Among them, Lianyungang Port ranks 36th in the world.
In recent years, Lianyungang Port has made continuous efforts to build a 100 million ton port that gives priority to the development of container transport and actively promoted the intelligent transformation of containers. Ju Haitao, director of the News Center of the Port Holding Group, said that now the container operation is basically in the rear, and there is only one worker beside a bridge crane. At present, the Group is discussing the construction of automatic container terminals which will be more unmanned. It is reported that in 2021, Lianyungang Port will give full play to the advantages of land-sea intermodal transport and complete the container throughput of 5.035 million TEUs through the new LNG tank special line and the opening of sea-rail intermodal trains, with a year-on-year increase of 4.8%.
On September 6, a special railway and sea intermodal train with 44 polypropylene containers left Dongchuan Station of Lanzhou, which went to South China via Lianyungang Port. This is a new domestic trade rail-sea intermodal transport business jointly developed by Lianyungang Port and Lanzhou Land Port. Through full cooperation and concerted effort among railway, port and shipping companies, the "one-stop" door-to-door mode of railway box and the "buy-it-now" policy are adopted to provide Lanzhou enterprises with a new logistics mode that is convenient, effective and economical. The implementation of this business has greatly improved the basic traffic volume of the Lanzhou-Lianyungang railway and sea train and has a positive significance for implementing the requirements of Lianyungang Port and Lanzhou Land Port on unblocking and building a "green Longhai channel".
At the container terminal of Lianyungang Port, mobile phones, computer accessories and other electronic products from Japan, South Korea and other countries unloaded from ocean-going freighters were transported by sea and rail through Lianyungang Port and boarded the train to Kazakhstan. These containers can be unloaded from the ship to the train within 15 minutes, and the international transit container operation can achieve "zero waiting".
Since this year, Lianyungang Port has actively optimized the transport organization around container transport, expanded the route network and the rail-water intermodal transport channel, further improved the level of container multi-channel transport and achieved remarkable results in stabilizing the supply chain. From January to August, the port completed a cargo throughput of 185 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.03%. The container completed 3.3811 million TEUs, with a year-on-year growth of 1.75%, ranking 11th in the country. The port has newly opened and encrypted many international routes from Lianyungang to Vladivostok, Lianyungang to Busan, South Korea and other domestic branch lines of foreign trade to Shanghai Port, Zhoushan Port of Ningbo, further strengthening the support for container development.
With the implementation of the strategic cooperation project of Lianyungang Port, Shanxi and other places' container rail-water intermodal transport corridor construction, a good foundation has been laid for the subsequent increase of container transport. In the next step, the port will continue to speed up infrastructure construction, fully connect the core inland container transport channel, significantly improve the port's service capacity and achieve an average annual growth of container throughput of more than 5%.
