Golden autumn brings rich harvests, and vigorous efforts open new chapters. In the first three quarters of this year, Lianyungang Port has been racing toward the goal of “securing a strong start to high-quality port development in the 15th Five-Year Plan period”. With coordinated efforts across the entire port, production figures have continued to climb, east-west corridors have gained momentum in both directions, the cooperation map has expanded on dual fronts, and the infrastructure matrix has taken shape at an accelerating pace. In the first three quarters, the port’s total cargo throughput grew 5.42 percent year-on-year, with all core indicators rising steadily, delivering a quarterly report card marked by steady progress and dual gains in both quality and efficiency.
Tapping Production Potential, Throughput Hits New Highs
In the first three quarters, Lianyungang Port continuously optimized operational organization and refined dispatch coordination. From January to September, the port handled 21 calls of 400,000-tonne vessels, with the ripple effect of its 400,000-tonne ore terminal continuing to amplify; port-wide iron ore throughput rose 4.8 percent year-on-year. Dongfang Company set a record of 4,088 vehicle-handling shifts during the roll-on/roll-off operation of the vessel “Anji Longsheng”, while port-wide break-bulk cargo throughput grew 18.3 percent year-on-year and vehicle exports surged 15.52 percent year-on-year. Each port area delivered standout results: Xinhaiwan Port Area’s throughput climbed 11.44 percent year-on-year, Guanhe Port Area’s foreign trade cargo throughput jumped 173 percent year-on-year, and port-wide sea-river intermodal transport volume rose 8.3 percent year-on-year. Meanwhile, monthly operational records were repeatedly broken — railway freight volume exceeded 6 million tonnes for the first time in August, and Xinwei Port achieved a single-vessel break-bulk loading record of 85,900 tonnes, marking a dual breakthrough in both single-ship records and handling capacity. Overall, port production has presented a robust upward trajectory.
Leveraging Corridor Strength, Two-Way Opening-Up Deepens
As a key node on the Belt and Road Initiative, Lianyungang Port has continued to weave a denser sea-land intermodal network and broaden its opening-up landscape. To the west, Phase I of the Aktau Port container hub officially commenced operations, pushing the “three-hub integration” of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor into a new phase of quality enhancement and accelerated delivery, with end-to-end transit time cut by approximately five days. From January to September, Lianyungang’s China-Europe (Asia) freight trains ran 732 services, up 7.3 percent year-on-year. To the east, maritime routes continued to expand — the “Lianyungang–Arkhangelsk” Arctic route entered regular operations, the port’s own vessels pioneered a point-to-point direct foreign trade route from “Lianyungang–Ho Chi Minh City”, and the “Lianshen Express” service handled 131,000 TEUs, a 12.92 percent increase.
Cultivating Markets and Infrastructure, Hub Capacity Keeps Rising
On the market development front, the port assembled a “100-person team for market promotion and investment attraction” to deepen penetration into its hinterland, precisely match with industrial enterprises, facilitate project implementation, secure multiple port-enterprise strategic partnerships, and continuously expand cargo sources and the cooperation map. On the infrastructure front, the 41.3-kilometre expansion and upgrade project of Lianyungang Port’s 300,000-tonne channel officially opened to navigation; the extension of the pipe-rack project for liquid chemical berths in Xuwei Port Area passed quality inspection; the fully enclosed sea-river intermodal corridor from Qitai Operation Zone to the SCO Logistics Park completed heavy-load trial runs; and Berth 296 in Ganyu Port Area received approval for temporary use. Currently, the Lianyungang International Grain Distribution Center is undergoing commissioning, and key projects including the 300,000-tonne silo cluster and the China-Kazakhstan Zero-Carbon Hub Park are advancing in an orderly manner, continuously reinforcing the hardware foundation for the port’s high-quality development.
Standing at the critical juncture of the fourth-quarter sprint and the drive to secure a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan period, Lianyungang Port will continue to consolidate the positive momentum built in the first three quarters, anchor its annual targets, further bolster hub capacity, keep intermodal corridors flowing, and unlock development drivers — delivering high-quality development results that serve the New Eurasian Land-Sea Trade Corridor and contribute to the high-quality advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative.
