Competing for Open Economy, Lianyungang Port is Full of Vitality

The ships are lining up. Under the remote skilled operation of the dispatcher, rows of tall red "Iron Man" are waving their arms, gently grabbing the colorful containers and placing them on the truck stably.
This is the New Oriental Container Terminal of Lianyungang Port, and the berth is operating at full capacity. Nearby, containers pile up like mountains. Outside the Port, the 10000-ton liner is slowly sailing to the distant sea level.
The epidemic continues to agitate the shipping market, and port congestion has spread all over the world. In contrast, Chinese ports, including Lianyungang Port, have shown strong resilience. In the first half of the year, Lianyungang Port completed a cargo throughput of 130 million tons, with remarkable achievements in railway shipping, bulk cargo competition, ro-ro cargo export, new cargo development, China-Europe Railway Express and other sectors.
Keeping efficient operation and strategically cooperating with other ports across the country, Lianyungang Port burst into vitality, preparing for a rebound in trade after the ease of epidemic.
Multiple measures are taken to relieve the trouble and blockage of collection and distribution.
The 109-meter-long "Yangtze Nova" ship was fully loaded and unloaded at berth 30 of the New Oriental International Container Terminal. After the marble imported from Vietnam arrived in Shanghai by sea, it was transferred to Lianyungang Port by "Lianshen Express" and shipped to Turkmenistan by railway. In the first half of the year, Shanghai and Lianyungang were affected by the epidemic, and the container volume of "Lianshen Express" bucked the trend and increased by 45.38%.
This year, the global epidemic is still unstable. Although the flow of people is blocked, the Port has built channels for the circulation of goods, funds and other factors, which has played an important role in ensuring the stability of the industrial chain and supply chain. We are gradually walking out of the bottleneck condition of "one cabin is difficult to obtain" and "one container is difficult to get" and ushering in a new situation of stability and improvement. The circle of friends of Lianyungang Port is also growing.
Railways and ports have always been one of the "barometers" of national economic changes. In the first half of the year, Lianyungang Port and China Railway Corporation worked together to optimize the sea-rail intermodal transport process, vigorously guide the transit to rail and give full play to the role of the railway as a major artery of transportation.
A group of conspicuous data makes people feel the vitality of the economy - the monthly average daily loading is 2151 vehicles, an increase of 11 vehicles year on year. The average daily unloading is 653 vehicles, an increase of 270 vehicles year-on-year. Xinsu Port Terminal Company loaded 1270 vehicles day and night on June 17, breaking the historical record.
"The coordination between roads and ports has improved the loading efficiency and quality, and the railway freight volume has continued to operate at a high level, reflecting the accelerated recovery of the economic and social development order of our city." The manager of the Transportation Management Department of the Port Railway Company said that the mobile port is filled with vitality of prosperity and development.
In terms of shipping, Lianyungang Port sent letters to COSCO, Maersk and other shipping companies, which received a positive response. It opened new container liner routes including the Persian Gulf in the Middle East, the East United States, South Africa and other ocean routes, connecting the main domestic sea-rail intermodal transport channels and the inland river ports in Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan and Anhui, which played an important role in stimulating domestic cargo exports and foreign trade imports.
Land and sea intermodal transport amplifies the benchmark demonstration effect of the “Belt and Road”.
With the sound of a whistle, the "Huishun" ship loaded with 1340 pieces of hot-rolled coil steel sailed to the Yellow Bay and headed for the destination ports of Ho Chi Minh and Phu Mei in Vietnam. Recently, Kazakhstan's transit hot-rolled coil steel completed the loading and sailing task for the first time at Lianyungang Port, marking the first full line linkage of the "Kazakhstan-Alataw Pass-Lianyungang- Southeast Asia" rail-sea express.
Blue waves and big port, thousands of sails racing; steel camel team, galloping thousands of miles. New lines and first trains have made breakthroughs. Since the beginning of this year, Lianyungang’s China-Europe Express, which has many advantages such as large capacity, fast speed, high safety, green environmental protection and so on, has realized "acceleration", with a total delivery volume of more than 400, continuing to lead Jiangsu.
Compared with the increase of quantity, the improvement of quality is more gratifying. Commodities from all over the world travel to dozens of countries and regions on the Eurasian continent by the China-Europe Express from Lianyungang and bring back bulk materials such as pulp, cotton yarn, board and other domestic needs, as well as consumer goods such as red wine, auto parts, high-end clothing. The trade system of "buying from the world, selling to the world" has come into being.
Wang Xinwen, Vice President of the Port Holding Group, said that relying on the China-Europe Express, the momentum of Sino-Kazakhstan sea and land "double hubs" is growing. More than 80% of Kazakhstan's imported consumer goods, exported mineral products, grain and other advantageous trade commodities transit through China are distributed through Lianyungang Port, which has played a leading role in Central Asia, SCO and other countries along the route.
New routes continue to extend, new regions continue to be covered, and new types of goods continue to be explored. This golden channel connecting the New Silk Road Economic Belt continues to contribute to the construction of the "Belt and Road". With Lianyungang Port as the sea port, China-Kazakhstan logistics Cooperation Base and the Khorgos Eastern Gate terminal as the transit platform and liner routes and China-Europe Express as the transportation carrier, the whole process logistics has been seamlessly connected. The whole process logistics cooperation system of land and sea combined transportation of port, aviation, road and park has basically formed.
Improving production quality and minimizing the impact of the epidemic
As the impact of the epidemic subsided, the Port’s throughput gradually turned from negative to positive. In the first half of the year, the foreign trade throughput of Lianyungang Port reached 67 million tons and containers reached 2.4641 million TEUs, basically the same as last year.
To minimize the impact of the epidemic, the Port took the initiative to connect with national strategies such as the construction of the "Belt and Road", the development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, and it also actively served the new development pattern with the domestic cycle as the main body and the domestic and international double cycles promoting each other. While strictly preventing and controlling the epidemic, the Port comprehensively improved its ability to ensure smooth traffic and achieved the improvement of port transportation production quality.
Recently, 261 Volvo cars gathered in Lianyungang for the first time by "car on train". After a short stay at the Port, these cars were shipped to Belgium. Since this year, relying on European routes, Lianyungang Port has exported more than 3000 Volvo vehicles, effectively helping introduce goods labeled "Made in China" to the world.
Volvo is far from the only customer interested in the high-quality and efficient shipping capacity of Lianyungang Port. Not long ago, the 102 meter long high-power offshore wind turbine blades were successfully shipped, marking that Lianyungang Port has ranked among the domestic 100 meter wind turbine blade generation and operation.
"This is very rare in the market downturn environment, and we have been highly praised by all parties." According to the manager of the RO-RO Department of Dong Fang Co., Ltd., the positioning of Lianyungang Port to build a regional ro-ro grocery import and export hub has been consolidated and strengthened since this year.
Let’s roll up our sleeves and work hard to make up for the loss. Looking at the report card of the first half of the year, although there are many highlights, some weaknesses are still exposed in port production. Wang Xinwen analyzed that due to the downturn of the steel market, the subsequent volume of iron ore market is not easy to increase, and the gap between the container volume and the annual target has also been further widened. In the next step, the Port staff will work hard to strengthen market development, optimize production organization and strengthen port coordination to improve the operation efficiency of key ships, improve the efficiency of pick-up and delivery vehicles and try their best to achieve the annual goals.
