Recently, the Ministry of Natural Resources announced the selection result of typical cases of marine ecological protection and restoration in 2023. Our city’s Renovation, Restoration and Protection Project of Lian Island was successfully selected. This is the second time that the project has been awarded a provincial-level or above honor after being successfully selected as the first “Most Beautiful Ecological Restoration Case” in Jiangsu Province in 2021. It is worth mentioning that not long ago, the Ministry of Natural Resources released a candidate list for “Harmony Island”, Lian Island is also the only island selected in the province.

In recent years, through the implementation of shoreline renovation projects and island slope restoration, our city has effectively improved the long-term disorderly development of Lian Island, repaired the ecological environment damage caused by human and natural factors such as the destruction of island beach resources and local landslides, greatly increased disaster prevention and reduction capabilities, maximized the protection of the natural geographical features of Lian Island, significantly optimized the landscape of the island and enhanced the tourism image of the island. The natural landscape and resources of Lian Island and surrounding waters have been well restored, realizing the harmonious coexistence of human and nature. After the implementation of the project, the number of tourists in Lian Island has increased year by year. Nowadays, the annual reception of Lian Island Scenic Area has reached over 4 million people and the annual reception income has reached 87 million yuan. The dividends of the marine ecological environment have been organically transformed into the driving force of economic development.

“At present, the ecological restoration project in our city has become the most effective booster for improving the ecological environment. The ecological concept is a sensor for practicing green lifestyles, and ecotourism is a converter for promoting the transformation of green waters and mountains into golden mountains and silver mountains.” According to the Municipal Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, next, the natural resources departments at all levels in the city will continue to promote ecological protection and restoration work by continuously implementing various ecological restoration projects, increase the supply of ecological products and embark on a green development path that not only highlights the charm of the sea but also boosts the economy.
