Lianyungang is one of China's first coastal cities opened to the outside world. It has business relations with 184 countries and regions. Investors from more than 30 countries and regions have invested in more than 4,000 projects here.

Lianyungang has a state-level Economic and Technological Development Zone, a National Demonstration Area for the Cooperation among China’s Eastern, Central and Western Regions and a National New & High-tech Industrial Development Zone. There are 8provincial-level development zones and parks. There are also several special customs supervision areas, including the export processing zoneandthe bonded logistics center.As one of the three international business centers in Jiangsu, Lianyungang is pushing forward the building of a comprehensive bonded area, a free trade port area and a pilot zone for China-Japan-Korea free trade zone.

Lianyungang Port implemented regional clearance as well as inspection and quarantine release through policies featuring “declaring at dependency and inspecting and clearing at ports” in 15 provinces and autonomous regions. It has formed the Land Bridge logistics alliance with major cities along the Land Bridge and has built 9 inland “dry ports”.
