According to the Development Plan of the Coastal Areas of Jiangsu Provinceapprovedby the State Council, coastal areas of Jiangsu Province will be transformed into an important economic growth pole in eastern China and the eastern starting point of the New Eurasia Land Bridge strongly promoting the development of neighboring areas.

According to the “One Belt and One Road” Development Plan issued by the country, Lianyungang is defined as the primary hub city along the New Eurasia Land Bridge Economic Corridor, the transit base for China-Kazakhstan logistics cooperation and the sea transportation base for the SCO member states.

On May 19, 2014, witnessed again by the leaders of China and Kazakhstan, the first phase of China-Kazakhstan (Lianyungang) Logistics Cooperation Base was officially put into operation. This is the first projectput into operationin China since the “One Belt and One Road” initiative was proposed.

General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed outthat “ if the story of Monkey King should have a counterpart nowadays, it would be the journey of Lianyungang making use of its late-development advantages to build the New Eurasia Land Bridge in the new era.”

Atthe 12^thPrime Ministers’ meeting of the SCO member states, Premier Li Keqiang pointed outthat “China would offer logistics and warehousing services for member states in Lianyungang,the eastern starting point of the New Eurasia Land Bridge.”

Premier Li Keqiang pointed out that Lianyungang is the leading city in Coastal Jiangsu Development. Linking central and western parts of China, Lianyungang serves as a strategic platform for the positive interaction between the coastal areas and central and western China, and it boasts unique advantages in port and other development resources to serve the inland regions.

After theDevelopment Plan of the Coastal Areas of Jiangsu Province was issuedby the country, Jiangsu Party Committee and Provincial Government proposed that Coastal Jiangsu Development is a top priority for Jiangsu and Lianyungang is a top priority in Coastal Jiangsu Development.

In order to implement the “One Belt and One Road”Development Plan, Jiangsu Party Committee and Provincial Government worked out an Implementation Plan, identifying Lianyungang as a core area for “One Belt and One Road” building in Jiangsu and urging Lianyungang to play the role of the pilot area in the country's overall strategy.

Over the years, Lianyungang has taken active measures to seize the important opportunities including “One Belt and One Road” initiative and coastal Jiangsu development strategy, and strives to push forward the integrated development of the port, the industries and the city. It has accelerated the building of an international coastal city, a modern industrial port city and a famous tourist city embraced by the sea and mountains. A new round of grand development and construction has beenushered in.It has maintained a good trend of scientific and leapingeconomic and social development.
