Here is an aerial photograph of the"sea rice" planted in Huanshatuo Community of Houzui Street in Lianyungang onOctober 14, 2018. At present, a bump harvest of 20 thousand acres of “Southern japonica 9108" rice is in sight in thereclaimed salt filed of Huanshatuo Community.

With the readjustment of industrialstructure, Lianyungang has decided to withdraw the industrial arrangement ofsalt production from coastal salt fields step by step, to carry out the projectof reclamation and conversion of salt fields to agriculture, to adopt themethods of digging ditches and discharging alkali, freshwater cultivating firstand then farmland planting, growing alkali-tolerant plants first and then plantinghigh-efficiency crops. And soil domestication and improvement in zones has beencarried out in a two to three-year cycle. Rice planting in saline-alkali soilwas successful, and the former hundred-mile salt field was graduallytransformed into a unique "coastal granary".
