Fast passenger trains from Lianyungang to Beijing, Shanghai, Baoji, Changzhou and Wuhan and Urumqi are available with the completion of the rebuilding of the east part of Lianyungang-Lanzhou Railway into a double-track railway, Roads in Lianyungang extend in all directions. The first-rate highway from Lianyungang to Nanjing was open to traffic in 1996. The two trunk highways, namely the Tongsan Highway (from Tongjiang in Helongjiang Province to Sanya in Hainan Province) and the Lianhuo Highway (from Lianyungang to Huoermusi in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region), meet in Lianyungang. Lianyungang is listed by the Central Government as one of the 45 main communication hubs of highways in China.
