“Suppliers concentrate automotive parts in Lianyungang, and our company is responsible for assembling them into containers and transporting them by rail to Kashgar, Xinjiang. After customs clearance, they are shipped to places like Tashkent, Uzbekistan. So far this year, the cumulative volume of goods transported has been around 300 containers, with a value of approximately 50 million yuan,” said Yan, Deputy General Manager of Lianyungang Sentrum International Logistics Co., Ltd., at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (Lianyungang) International Logistics Park.
The significant increase in the shipping volume of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan freight train is a microcosm of the high-quality development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (Lianyungang) International Logistics Park this year. It is reported that from January to July this year, the logistics park achieved a main business income of 2.541 billion yuan and handled a cumulative logistics volume of 46.1531 million tons, representing a year-on-year increase of 14.25%. The number of shipments on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan “road-rail combined transport” freight train reached 473 carloads, a year-on-year increase of 32.87%. The scale of logistics operations continues to expand, and the construction of international logistics corridors has yielded remarkable results.
Since the beginning of this year, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (Lianyungang) International Logistics Park has actively implemented national strategies to provide international logistics services for Central Asian and SCO countries and build itself into a transit hub for international logistics. In addition to continuously enriching business models and steadily operating the automotive parts distribution base in Uzbekistan, the park has actively expanded integrated services of “freight trains + overseas warehouses” and innovatively established a dual-warehouse linkage mechanism between “overseas warehouses + domestic warehouses”. Meanwhile, by introducing a distribution center for specialty goods from SCO countries, the park has facilitated the implementation of new business models combining “freight trains + cross-border e-commerce”.
Inside the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (Lianyungang) International Logistics Park, the container terminal project is under accelerated construction. Currently, pile foundation work and the construction of some individual structures have been completed, with an overall construction progress of 70%. The project is planned to be completed and put into operation within the year. An important logistics node serving the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” and driving regional economic development is rapidly emerging. “Relying on the superior geographical location of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (Lianyungang) International Logistics Park and its well-established ‘road-rail-water’ multimodal transport system, the project involves expansion and functional upgrades based on the existing 9.4-hectare container terminal. Upon completion, it will increase the annual container handling capacity by nearly 200,000 TEUs. Since its commencement in November 2024, the overall progress has been on schedule,” said Wu, Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Lianyungang Port Logistics Holding Co., Ltd.
While continuously consolidating its logistics hub functions and achieving steady growth in key indicators, the park has leveraged its port logistics hub to intensify efforts in attracting port-adjacent industrial investments and promote the innovative and integrated development of the logistics and manufacturing industries. “Lianyungang Road Port currently has 459 parking spaces for large trucks and 5,000 parking spaces for exported cars. It mainly serves the functions of parking vehicles for the collection and distribution of goods at Lianyungang Port and the transshipment of exported cars,” said Yuan, Deputy General Manager of Lianyungang Road Port Co., Ltd. Yuan added that in the next step, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (Lianyungang) International Logistics Park will continue to promote the advantages of its multimodal transport system, deepen the linkage model of “freight trains + overseas warehouses”, accelerate the extension of logistics into international trade, cross-border e-commerce, and industrial support sectors, and continuously enhance the international logistics service capacity.
