Port’s Ro-Ro Vehicle Exports Hit Record High

On December 28, 2025, the dock of Lianyungang Port’s Oriental Port Affairs Branch was bustling with activity. The world’s largest 9,500-vehicle-capacity car carrier, the “Anji Longsheng”, slowly departed from its berth, embarking on its maiden voyage to Europe with 3,530 domestically produced cars on board. With the successful completion of the ship’s loading operations, Lianyungang Port’s ro-ro vehicle exports for 2025 officially surpassed 375,000 units, setting a new all-time high. This breakthrough not only marks a leap in the development level of the port’s ro-ro business but also signifies that Lianyungang Port is becoming a crucial starting point on the “race track” for Chinese cars to access the global market, injecting strong momentum into the “export of domestically produced cars”.
It is understood that the “Anji Longsheng” is a 9,500-vehicle-capacity methanol-ready car carrier independently designed by the Shanghai Ship and Shipping Research Institute and built by Jiangnan Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. for Anji Logistics. To ensure the smooth maiden voyage of “Anji Longsheng”, Lianyungang Port’s Oriental Branch took the initiative to lead the way, establishing a collaborative and coordinated mechanism with multiple port authorities, including customs, maritime affairs, border inspection, and pilotage stations. A dedicated efficient customs clearance green channel was opened to ensure the vessel’s “zero waiting time” for berthing and “zero delay” in operations throughout the process.
The digital platform has become a key support for enhancing operational efficiency. Leveraging the digital management platform built by the Lianyungang International Automobile Green and Smart Logistics Center, the operational team monitored the movement of the loaded vehicles in real time and completed preliminary preparations such as yard zoning planning and loading route formulation in advance. From vessel berthing, vehicle scheduling, and cargo hold allocation to loading operations, each link was closely connected, maximizing the reduction of the vessel’s time in port. The high-quality loading efficiency and services won unanimous praise from customers, further enhancing the distinctive brand advantage of Lianyungang Port’s ro-ro operations.
Looking back at 2025, faced with the continuously rising demand for ro-ro business growth and increasingly fierce market competition, the port closely adhered to its strategic positioning as a “regional ro-ro and breakbulk import and export distribution center”. By focusing on “market outreach by all staff” and adhering to a dual-driven approach of “route expansion + deep sourcing”, the port continuously intensified its global route network. “From exporting 85,000 ro-ro vehicles in 2021 to 350,000 in 2024, and then to the target of 375,000 in 2025, we speak with data, standards, and efficiency. This is a new starting point,” said Peng, Deputy General Manager of the Oriental Port Affairs Branch. Peng added that in the next step, Lianyungang Port will continue to deepen the digital and intelligent transformation of its ro-ro business, continuously expand its global route network, and strive to build a more efficient, stable, and resilient international hub seaport.
