By 2025, Lianyungang City had achieved remarkable results in international cultural exchanges. With “Foreigners in the Port City” as the core brand, it deepened the people-to-people connectivity with countries jointly building the Belt and Road through a series of themed activities.
Brand Activities and Achievements
New Eurasian Continental Bridge International Talent Exchange Event: As a brand project for Lianyungang's foreign friendly exchanges, this event has been successfully held for three times. The 2025 event, held from June 26 to July 9, was themed “Cross-border E-commerce Redraws the ‘New Silk Road'”, attracting 48 teachers and students from 11 countries including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. The event covered practical Chinese language courses, traditional cultural experiences such as blue-dyed lacquer fans, cross-border e-commerce training, and field visits to Huaguo Mountain and the China-Kazakhstan Logistics Cooperation Base, comprehensively showcasing the achievements of Chinese path to modernization.
“Joyful Reading Jiangsu” Theme Event: In May 2025, this provincial-level brand event made its debut in Lianyungang, with the theme of “Exploring the Wonderland of Journey to the West and Discovering the ‘Crystal' Splendor of the Silk Road”. Over 200 international students from 54 countries and 37 universities across the province participated. Through reading “Journey to the West”, visiting the actual set of Mount Hua Guo, experiencing the crystal culture of the East China Sea, and engaging with the cross-border e-commerce industry in Dalian, they gained a deep understanding of Lianyungang's traditional culture and the charm of its modern industries.
Diversified Immersive Exchange: Relying on the “Foreigners in the City - I Love Lianyungang” brand, a total of 36 immersive cultural exchange activities between China and foreign countries were held throughout the year, including “Joyful Journey to the West” with 100 Russian experts, “Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Day”, “International Youth Culture Week”, and Yuanxiao (Lantern Festival) dragon and lion dance performances by Chinese and foreign students, with a total of over 2,000 foreign guests participating. Two of these activities received likes from the official media of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and were promoted globally, with a total online viewership exceeding 100,000.
Policy Support and Future Outlook
To facilitate foreign business people to come to Lianyungang for economic and trade cooperation, Lianyungang City has provided special visa convenience services to enterprises since January 2025, covering foreigners who frequently come to Lianyungang for business and trade activities, as well as their spouses and children. The Municipal Foreign Affairs Office stated that it will continue to optimize service processes, expand cooperation space, and build solid foreign affairs support for high-level opening up, helping Lianyungang to build a modern international coastal new port city in the new era.
